Recognizing the challenges of weekly hiring groups and training and onboarding led by senior employees, the company sought a more efficient, standardized, and scalable solution. The company turned to Theia for help in creating their vision.
Challenges
Frequent hiring necessitated a more streamlined onboarding process.
Reliance on senior employees for training was expensive and unsustainable.
The need for a standardized yet engaging onboarding experience.
Objectives
Develop a scalable and efficient onboarding process.
Provide an engaging, interactive, and informative experience for new hires.
Standardize training while reducing reliance on senior employees for facilitation.
Create a fun and unique onboarding experience that aligns with the company’s innovative spirit.
Solution
Cruise partnered with Theia to develop a virtual onboarding simulation, tailored to their unique requirements. The project approach was categorized into three phases:
Think like a Car Module: This virtual auto showroom featured a real-time 3D environment where users explore a car's exterior from all angles. Includes interactive hotspots for accessing multimedia content about the car's features, and scalable templates for easy updates and content additions
Navigation Between Modules: A unique hub navigation system to transition seamlessly between modules, enhancing user engagement and preparing for future content expansion.
Deployment: We partnered with enterprise metaverse platform Mytaverse to provide pixel streaming, account management, and backend support for the Cruise team..
Outcomes
Scalability: The solution helps in managing resources effectively, reducing the strain on human and financial resources, and ensures that the onboarding experience remains consistent and efficient, regardless of the number of new hires or the pace of growth.
Engagement: The unique and fun onboarding experience sets the tone for the company's innovative culture and values and helps new employees assimilate information more effectively, as the engaging and interactive content is more memorable than previous onboarding and training efforts.
Visual Quality and Creativity: Impressive visuals and a creative presentation help in better illustrating complex concepts related to autonomous vehicles, making the learning process more impactful.
Effective Project Management: Good project management ensured that the project met its objectives within the allotted scope, time, and budget, minimizing risks and maximizing outcomes.
