Product Visualization

Background

When Lenovo planned the launch of their groundbreaking ThinkStation PX, a collaborative effort with Aston Martin, they faced the challenge of effectively showcasing the innovative product to a global audience. Traditional methods fell short, prompting Lenovo to seek a solution that would transcend geographical limitations and provide an immersive experience for key stakeholders and customers.

Solution

Lenovo partnered with Theia to create a 1:1 scale digital twin of the ThinkStation PX. This digital twin, co-designed with Aston Martin, became a game-changer in virtual product demonstrations. Leveraging complex 3D CAD data and NVIDIA's Omniverse Enterprise, Theia collaborated seamlessly with Lenovo's in-house design teams across different countries.

Unreal Engine 5 played a pivotal role in rendering the final experience, accessible through various mediums, including a desktop application, pixel streaming, and VR HMD. This innovation allowed potential customers to engage instantly, eliminating the need for physical prototypes and providing a comprehensive understanding of the workstation's technical capabilities.

The ThinkStation PX digital twin revolutionized Lenovo's product showcasing and empowered their sales team to deliver a more immersive experience. Customers could interact with the workstation in a fully virtual environment, transcending traditional 3D renders and technical specifications. Particularly crucial during the pandemic, virtual product demonstrations became an essential tool for manufacturing companies.

“Popularized during the pandemic, when in-person events and meetings were limited, virtual product demonstrations are now an essential tool for all manufacturing companies. They allow companies to showcase their products to more potential customers, in more locations, in a fully interactive and more engaging way. This can result in increased overall sales and a much faster time to revenue”

- Bill Fishkin, CEO, Theia Interactive

Outcome

The partnership between Theia and Lenovo resulted in a highly effective digital twin, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices for virtual production. This innovation expanded Lenovo's reach and made the new workstation more accessible. Importantly, the digital twin approach significantly reduced the carbon footprint by minimizing pre-sales product delivery and logistical activities.

“One of the most impressive aspects of the ThinkStation PX digital twin is its visual quality, flexibility and overall accessibility. Designing such a complex workstation with globally dispersed teams was not easy, yet being able to bring Lenovo designers, collaboration partners, global manufacturing sites and now our own sales teams and customers together to view a single source of truth has been fantastic”
